Step by step

Four steps on your home network

Once on the FRITZ!Box, then everything on the TV. Allow five minutes.

Turn on Live TV in the FRITZ!Box

On a computer, open fritz.box in a browser and sign in. Under DVB-C, turn on Live TV and run the channel scan if the box offers it; the FRITZ!Box restarts during this.

Connect the device to the FRITZ!Box network

The TV or box running Chaipa must be on the FRITZ!Box network, over Wi-Fi or cable. For HD channels, a network cable or strong Wi-Fi is most reliable.

Add the channel list

In Chaipa, choose M3U URL and enter http://fritz.box/dvb/m3u/tvhd.m3u (HD channels) — when the app first opens, or in Settings. For SD channels, replace tvhd.m3u with tvsd.m3u; for radio, with radio.m3u.

Switch the LIVE player to VLC

The FRITZ!Box streams channels over RTSP, a format the VLC player reads. Open Settings → Playback and, under LIVE player, choose VLC. Your channels are then under Live TV.

Chaipa not installed yet? Get it on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore or with Downloader.

Troubleshooting

If something goes wrong

The playlist doesn't load
Check that the device is on the FRITZ!Box network. If you turned on encrypted DNS in Chaipa, the name fritz.box can't be resolved: use the box's IP address instead, by default http://192.168.178.1/dvb/m3u/tvhd.m3u.
Channels are listed but don't start
Make sure the LIVE player is set to VLC (Settings → Playback), and that Live TV is turned on in the FRITZ!Box.
Some channels are missing
The FRITZ!Box only passes on free-to-air channels. Encrypted channels, such as pay-TV packages, aren't included.
Does it work away from home?
No. The FRITZ!Box only streams cable TV on your home network.
Is this legal?
Yes. TV on the home network is an official FRITZ!Box feature (AVM knowledge base), for the channels of your own cable connection. Chaipa is a player and provides no channels. Learn more about legal IPTV.
