Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 June 2026

In short: Chaipa has no user accounts, shows no ads and does not track you or sell data. Your playlists and viewing data stay on your device. One optional, anonymous community feature shares programme-guide data to improve coverage — and you can turn it off.

1. Who we are

This policy explains how the Chaipa application (the "App") and the website at chaipa.net (the "Site") handle information. Chaipa is a media player for Android TV. For any privacy question, contact us at chaipa@ciriac.com.

2. Our approach

We designed Chaipa to need as little of your data as possible. There are no Chaipa user accounts, no advertising, and no behavioural tracking or profiling. We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

3. Information handled by the App

Stored on your device

The following stays locally on your device and is not sent to us:

  • Your playlists and credentials — the M3U links or Xtream Codes details you add are stored on the device so the App can connect to the source you chose. They are sent only to that provider, by you, to play your media.
  • Viewing data — watch progress ("continue watching"), favourites and preferences (such as your chosen theme, video engine, language and subtitle settings).
  • A cache of artwork and guide data to make browsing fast.

The IPTV provider you choose

When you play content, the App connects directly to the server defined in your playlist. That third-party provider may receive your IP address and standard connection information as part of normal streaming. Your relationship with that provider is governed by their own terms and privacy policy, not ours.

4. Optional community guide & logo sharing

Chaipa includes an optional feature that improves electronic-programme-guide (EPG) and channel-logo coverage by pooling guide data across users. When enabled, the App may send programme-guide information and channel identifiers associated with a randomly generated, anonymous identifier. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, account or device identity, and the feature does not transmit your playlist URL or credentials. To prevent abuse (spam, fraudulent contributions), the server keeps a pseudonymised, irreversible form of the contribution's network address (a salted hash) — never the raw IP address. It exists solely to build a better shared programme guide. You can disable this feature at any time in the App's settings.

5. Optional artwork lookup (TMDB)

If you choose to enter a TMDB API key, the App may query The Movie Database to fetch higher-quality posters and metadata when your provider's artwork is missing. The key is stored locally on your device and used only for those lookups. This feature is optional and off unless you configure it.

6. The website

The Site is a static informational website. It sets no cookies, contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers, and does not build a profile of visitors. The Site is served through Cloudflare, our hosting provider, which may process standard server request logs (such as IP address and user-agent) transiently for security, abuse prevention and to deliver the pages. If you email us using a link on the Site, we receive the email address and message you send, and use them only to reply.

7. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell or trade personal data. Data may reach third parties only in these limited ways: (a) the IPTV provider you choose to connect to; (b) The Movie Database, if you enable the optional TMDB lookup; (c) Cloudflare, which hosts the Site and the optional community-guide service; and (d) where required by applicable law.

8. Data retention

On-device data remains until you delete it, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. Anonymous community-guide contributions are retained only as needed to operate and maintain the shared guide. Transient server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes.

9. Children

Chaipa is a general-purpose media player and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Your rights

Because the App requires no account and stores your data on your own device, you remain in control: you can edit or remove your playlists, clear watch history and the cache, and disable the optional community feature at any time in the App's settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding personal data; contact us and we will help where we can.

11. Deleting your data

Chaipa creates no account. Your playlists, credentials and watch data stay on your device only: to erase them, remove them in the App, clear the App's data, or uninstall it.

On the server, the only data tied to your device is a randomly generated anonymous identifier (plus a salted, irreversible hash of the network address, for abuse prevention), used by the optional community-guide feature and, where applicable, by your subscription state. To request deletion, email chaipa@ciriac.com with the subject "Delete my data"; we delete the associated data within 30 days. Exceptions: contributions already aggregated anonymously into the shared guide can no longer be linked to you, and records tied to an active subscription are kept for as long as our billing obligations require, then deleted.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
