Step by step

Four steps, no login

Everything happens on the TV, with the remote. Allow three minutes.

Set up your HDHomeRun

If it isn't done yet, connect the HDHomeRun to your antenna or cable and to your router, then scan for channels with the HDHomeRun app, as SiliconDust explains.

Connect the device to the same network

The TV or box running Chaipa must be on the same home network as the HDHomeRun, over Wi-Fi or cable.

Add the channel lineup

In Chaipa, choose M3U URL and enter http://hdhomerun.local/lineup.m3u — when the app first opens, or in Settings if you already have a playlist. If it doesn't load, replace hdhomerun.local with the HDHomeRun's IP address.

Pick a channel

Open Live TV: your antenna or cable channels are there, with their channel numbers. Add your favourites to Favorites to find them in one click.

Chaipa not installed yet? Get it on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore or with Downloader.

Troubleshooting

If something goes wrong

The lineup doesn't load
Some TVs can't resolve hdhomerun.local, and it can't be resolved either if you turned on encrypted DNS in Chaipa. Use the HDHomeRun's IP address instead, for example http://192.168.1.50/lineup.m3u: you'll find it in your router's device list or in the HDHomeRun app.
Black picture or no sound on some channels
Some channels use formats that not every TV decodes in hardware. Open Settings → Playback and, under LIVE player, choose VLC, which decodes them itself.
A channel won't start while someone else is watching
Each channel being watched uses one HDHomeRun tuner. When all the tuners are busy, a new channel can't start until one is freed.
Some channels don't play at all
Channels that the HDHomeRun marks as copy-protected (DRM) can't be played in Chaipa.
Is this legal?
Yes. You're watching the channels your own antenna or cable connection receives, through a feature SiliconDust documents for third-party players (HDHomeRun HTTP guide). Chaipa is a player and provides no channels. Learn more about legal IPTV.
